The Giving Season is Here!

Giving Tuesday 2022 is November 29th this year and many generous credit union members will give to their favorite nonprofits like they do every year.  This is a time to build on current and add new relationships – moments of caring and generosity – in our community.  We know that the average age of a credit union member is 53 years, which encompasses some older Generation X and some younger Baby Boomers.  But, did you know that Millennials (born between 1981 and 2000) are the largest living demographic cohort in the United States?

Here's one more fact:  Men aged 18-34 are the largest group of charitable donors and are most likely to use Fin-Tech (apps) to interact with nonprofits.  Some of the things that are important to them include:

  • Value of community relationships.

  • Perception of Credit Unions as partners, not impersonal monoliths.

  • Desire to maintain local ties with nonprofits.

  • Matching donations from financial institutions.

Matching programs are an incentive to donors when every dollar they give is doubled by a financial organization that supports their same community values.

In a case study, Spire Credit Union supported a giving campaign for local nonprofits by matching member donations to ANY charity they chose.  When member donations exceeded their target of $25,000, Spire raised its commitment to meet every member’s donation.  In other words, instead of nonprofits receiving $25,000 in donations, they received a total of $59,997.  The best part?  The entire amount went to charity, with no fees and no hidden charges skimmed off the top!

How did they do it?  By using NetGiver to link credit union members to nonprofits – they’re all interconnected – and technology makes it easy, secure and free.  NetGiver is also a member acquisition and retention tool: It’s “sticky” because once people sign up, they are less likely to look around for other solutions the next time they feel generous.  Giving season is the perfect time to introduce your base to a safe and easy way to give and to show new donors that you value their time and resources.

Nonprofits love getting 100 percent of their donations via our app and your members love knowing that all the money they give will be used to help their favorite cause.  Other Fin-Tech platforms say they are free but have hidden fees.  Some have a subscription fee plus a transaction fee (a percentage of the donation plus 30 cents, for example).  Some of them ask donors to “contribute” the processing fee or leave a “tip” which constitutes the processing charge.  That’s not free.  That’s not fair.  That’s not good.

Be Free.  Be Fair.  Be Good.
